WALHONDING – Customers tell the story of Newcastle Farmhaus, an Amish-style restaurant on U.S. Highway 36 in Walhonding.
“We were looking for a casual place to eat as a family, and this was perfect,” one reviewer wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook Page. “Food was delicious. We can’t wait to go again.”
“Friday night fish, fries and cole slaw is excellent,” another wrote. “Great atmosphere and staff.”
The good reviews keep coming page after page on the old-school food and style at Newcastle Farmhaus.
“I love the Farmhaus!” still another reviewer took the time to say. “You will not be disappointed. The best beef and noodles I have ever eaten in my life. The best pies you will find anywhere around. Check them out, I can guarantee, you will keep going back!”
There are raves about homemade bread, meat loaf, baked potatoes, chocolate peanut butter pie — and praise after praise of the fried fish and cole slaw.
Then there is the breakfast menu, with baked apple oatmeal, biscuits, pancakes and French toast.
You can dine inside or order carryout.
The Monday night special is meatloaf with a baked potato and one other side dish. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Wednesday specials are cheesy potatoes with two sides. Thursdays, it’s pulled pork tacos with fries; and Fridays, of course, is fried fish with French fries -or- Carolina-style pulled pork sandwich with French fries. Saturdays is chicken wings with fries, and Sundays includes beef and noodles over mashed potatoes with your choice of one side dish.
“We stayed close to the restaurant for a long weekend and we ate here every day we stayed,” another reviewer wrote. “Even stopped in for breakfast on the way out! Absolutely everything was delicious. The service was great and it’s reasonably priced!"
