MOUNT VERNON – Knox County Career Center students competed virtually in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Region IV competition last month.
KCCC students in the Computer Network Technology (CNT), CollegeU-Business (CLGU), Digital Media and Software Development (DMSD) and Pre-Professional Mentorship (PPM) programs competed against students from Delaware Hayes High School and Delaware Area Career Center.
BPA is a career technical student organization that allows students to compete in various competitions in the areas of finance, business administration, management information systems, digital communications and design, management, marketing and communications, and health administration.
KCCC had 111 students compete in the Region IV competition. 79 of those 111 students were recognized on the regional level for placement. Hannah, a junior in CollegeU-Business, was given special recognition as she was awarded the Executive Torch Award for completing activities in the seven Torch categories: leadership, service, cooperation, knowledge, friendship, love, hope, faith and patriotism.
“The students did a great job competing under new circumstances,” Keyara Murphy, BPA Region IV director, said. “All students prepared in different ways; reviewed resources for tests, created projects using specific software, recorded presentations or connected virtually with a community member. All contests were scored by a professional from the content area. Students apply and improve life skills through these competitions.”
“As an alumnus, I love what this organization offers to students,” Murphy added. “It was life-changing for me as a student, and (I) know it can be for current students as well. We wish the best to the students who are proceeding to compete at the state and, potentially, national level. These are the opportunities and experiences CTE is made of.”
