MOUNT VERNON – Garnet L. Ayers, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at the Country Court Nursing Home. She was born on June 29, 1928, in Lucasville, to the late Edward and Mary Nelson.
Garnet worked for Montgomery Ward, Cooper-Bessemer, and retired from K-Mart as the personnel director. She was an accomplished quilter and seamstress. She made more than twelve afghans. Garnet was also an accomplished baker and loved to bake bread and rolls for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Andrew) Kern; her son, Darren Ayers; her brother, Donald Nelson; and her dear friends, Bill and Diane Wilson.
In addition to her parents, Garnet was preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years, James Ayers; and a brother, Edward Nelson.
In keeping with Garnet’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will observe a private graveside service at East View Cemetery in Centerburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
