FREDERICKTOWN – Neil R. Overly, 102, passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. He was born on Nov. 8, 1918, in Fredericktown, the son of Edwin and Eva Darel (Gleason) Overly.
Neil was a 1936 graduate of Fredericktown High School and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II while stationed in France and Germany.
Upon returning home from the war, Neil started farming and continued to farm for many years while also working as an adjuster for Federal Crop Insurance and the State of Ohio. He was a member of the Batemantown United Methodist Church, Joe Cocanour Post #500 of the American Legion, a charter member of the Fredericktown Tomato Festival Board and past president of the Wally Byan Airstream Club in Marion.
He is survived by his three sons, Larry (Lynn) Overly of Fredericktown, Cless (Linda) Overly of Cumming, Georgia, and James (Darlene) Overly of Utica; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his wife, Vyvyan (Bell) Overly; a grandson, Rob Overly; and a sister, Betty Robinson.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, beginning at 2 p.m. in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. Pastor David Spaulding will be officiating.
