Junior Cavs roundup: Frantz scores 21 to lead McPeek over Brooks

Fourteen Junior Cavs basketball games with kids ranging from kindergarten-age to middle school took place at the YMCA Sports Center in Mount Vernon on Saturday, Jan. 16. Here’s how the kids fared:

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Ethan Frantz poured in 21 points to lead McPeek to a 43-20 victory over Brooks.

Mason Holt and Kale Oswalt scored six points apiece for McPeek.

Wade Denuit led Brooks with nine points, and Cody Wilson and Luka Hicks had four points apiece.

Kreager/McNichols 43, Woosley 41

Sami Lackonsen went for 22 points to lead Kreager/McNichols to a narrow victory over Woosley, 43-41.

Joey Trickle and Bryce Kreager were also solid for Kreager/McNicholls, finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Carson Ruhl scored 10 points to lead Woosley.

Ross 32, Sheehan 23

Carson Meyer scored 10 points and Hunter Looney added eight points to lead Ross to a 32-23 win over Sheehan.

Mason Chesnut scored a game-best 11 points to pace Sheehan.

FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE

Broden Burt went for 20 points to lead Hess/Miller to a 36-17 win over Dayton.

Zayden Comer pitched in 14 points for Hess/Miller, and Caius Shoemaker led Dayton with five points.

Hagerman 23, Yost 18

Justus Shaw poured in 19 points to help Hagerman get by Yost, 23-18.

Luke Tilman led Yost with six points.

SECOND AND THIRD GRADE

Eight different players found the scoring column to help Curry/Rine narrowly defeat Roberts/Yingst 26-22.

Emma Ridenour scored six points and Adelle Curry added five points to pace Curry/Rine.

Harper Joris and Elliott Merritt scored six points apiece to lead Roberts/Yingst.

Vonck 46, Hall/Melton 38

Three players scored in double figures to help Vonck win a 46-38 shootout against Hall/Melton.

Theo Vonck, Nicksen VanHouten and Lane Baker each scored 10 points to pace Vonck.

Nathan Melton scored a game-best 14 points and Jordan Hall chipped in 10 points to lead Hall/Melton.

Bradley 33, Hood 24

Kasen Oswalt led Bradley with 16 points in a 33-24 win over Hood.

Winsten Snyder scored 12 points to top Hood.

Newell 31, Cline/Matheny 30

Ian Eggert needed every one of his 14 points to lead Newell to a 31-30 win over Cline/Matheny.

Parker Saunders paced Cline/Matheny with 14 points.

KINDERGARTEN/FIRST GRADE

Austin Yost scored 12 points and Luke Matheny pitched in 10 points to help Cline/Matheny to a 30-24 victory over Donaugh.

Brayden Heckman went for a game-high 16 points to lead Donaugh.

Curry/Phillips 42, Kelling 4

Max Curry scored 16 points and Evie McMann added 14 points to lead Curry/Phillips over Kelling 42-4.

Lila Witham and Watson Blubaugh accounted for Kelling’s points with two apiece.

Fearn 38, Strong 12

Rylan Hoyng scored 16 points and Maxwell McNutt added 10 points to help Fearn to a 38-12 win over Strong.

Jackson Hoar scored six points for Strong.

O’Bryan/Hunnicut 22, Jones/Miller 20

Manilla Vernon and Peyton Bartock scored eight points each to lead O’Bryan/Hunnicut to a narrow win over Jones/Miller.

Tabor Holdbrook led Jones/Miller with eight points.
