FREDERICKTOWN – Matthew S. Adams was arrested this week on four outstanding warrants — one for having weapons under disability — after Fredericktown Police were tipped off on his whereabouts.

At approximately 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, the Fredericktown Police Department received word that Adams had been sighted at a local business. While responding to the area where Adams was last seen, a Fredericktown officer saw Adams’ vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Adams refused the signal to stop and fled from the officer. The pursuit left the Village of Fredericktown and continued on rural roads in the northwest comer of Knox County.

The pursuing Fredericktown officer lost sight of the vehicle when it passed an Amish horse and buggy while approaching the crest of a hill. Once the officer had safely passed the horse and buggy, he realized he no longer had sight of Adams’ vehicle and ended the pursuit, continuing to patrol the area for the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, the Ohio State Highway Patrol spotted Adams’ vehicle as he continued to flee. At some point during the pursuit, the vehicle stopped and Adams fled on foot. After a coordinated search involving the Fredericktown Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Knox County Sheriff's Office and Mount Vernon Police Department, Adams was apprehended.

He is incarcerated at the Knox County Jail on his outstanding warrants. The Knox County Prosecutor will review this incident and determine whether to file additional charges.
