MOUNT VERNON – Danny Charles Stiltner passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
Dan was born on Aug. 10, 1946, in Grundy, Virginia, to the late Jess Willard Stiltner and E. Kathleen (Pruett) Stiltner. His parents moved to Ohio in the early 1950s, where he grew up in Sparta. He graduated from Highland High School in 1964; Career Academy in 1967, earning a certification in Radio and Television Broadcasting; and The Ohio State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. As a disc jockey, Dan broadcast his radio show on several stations in Ohio; including WOSU in Columbus, WBTC in Uhrichsville and WTNS FM in Coshocton.
While he enjoyed radio broadcasting, Dan's passion was writing. He wrote several books and published life-based articles in the Columbus Dispatch and Centerburg Gazette. He had a love of music, chess, and was also a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Dan suffered from multiple sclerosis, and for the past 15 years he lived in the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon, where he was well-loved by the staff.
He is survived by his loving son, Tory Matthew Stiltner, who resides in Rittman; his brother, Ron Stiltner of Columbia City, Indiana; sister, Kay (Stiltner) Hubbard of Cape Coral, Florida; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Allen Stiltner; and his parents, Willard and Kathleen Stiltner.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caring and loving staff at Country Club Retirement Campus and John Hankins for caring for Dan for many years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Dan's memory to the MS Society.
There will be no calling hours, and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the Bloomfield District Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home.
