FREDERICKTOWN – Nicholas J. Madias Sr., 88, of Fredericktown passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born in Chios, Greece, on March 12, 1932, to the late John and Agnes (Mason) Madias Sr.

Nicholas retired from General Motors in Ontario where he was a crane operator and a member of the UAW Local 549. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing euchre and liked classic sports cars. He was a fan of the Browns, the Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes; but most of all Nicholas loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Freda A. (White) Madias; children, Chrissie (Ron) Miller of Grove City, Nicholas (Paola) Madias Jr. of Dublin, Susan (Roger) Fairchild of Mansfield and Mary Stone of Reynoldsburg; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Steve) Facaros of Stockton, California; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Nicholas was preceded in death by a sister, Rena Scarvelis; a brother, John Madias Jr.; and nephews, John and Steve Scarvelis.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 East College St. in Fredericktown, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at  11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Michael Ellis presiding. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
