HOWARD – Jan Charlene Collins, 69, passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, 2020, with family at her side. She was born on Sept. 12, 1951, in Toledo, to Coy William and Beverly Jane Collins.

Jan spent many years working as a social worker advocating for children. After retirement, she moved to Texas to be closer to her dear cousin and best friend, Randi Weisemann and family. While residing in Texas, she made many friends and enjoyed being a substitute teacher.

In recent years, Jan moved back to Ohio to be closer to her family. She enjoyed being back in Apple Valley and living the lake life that she always knew.  

Jan was always involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. From watching Ethan show his hogs at the fair and Macie playing softball and soccer, her grandchildren were her world. She also enjoyed spending time with her granddogs, Sidnee, Raz, Nugget and Luna. Jan loved spending time 'garage-sale'-ing and thrifting with her best friend, Lisa Rutter. And, she especially loved beach vacations.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey and Wendy DeWeerd, Jessica and Joey Moore, and Jessica Schneider; her grandchildren, Ethan and Macie Moore, and Daniel Chance; her older brother, Bob Collins of Tecumseh, Michigan; and her dog, Chelsea.

Jan was preceded in death by the love of her life, Dan Schneider; and her first husband, James DeWeerd.

A celebration of life will be held next summer at the beach, her happy place.
