Pet of the Week: Daphne

Meet Daphne, she is this week's Pet of the Week. Daphne belonged to Dr. Berry and Brenda George of Apple Valley.

Dr. George had always wanted a bulldog as that was his school's mascot.

Daphne was purchased from a breeder (Jacinda Palm) here locally. Her favorite thing to do was snuggle. She had an obsession with sucking on your nose. Her personality was extremely loving of all people big and small, and she absolutely loved her spa days every six weeks.

Although Daphne was a purebred bulldog, Brenda George has dedicated her life to a rescue group for older senior dogs called The Underdog Society [501(c)(3)]. The group helps older senior dogs with medical issues that others have given up on and does their best to give them the absolute best quality of life in their final years.

Dr. Amanda Rogers, from Complete Animal Care located on Harcourt Road, has been a big help and a big part of Mrs. George’s rescue efforts. She, along with Med Vet, has treated all of Mrs. George’s rescues with all their needs, regardless of how complicated.

Daphne was a huge part of Dr. George’s life. She loved to lay by the pool on summer days, watch the boats on the lake and also help her dad with his many ongoing projects in the garage.

I personally took a very fond liking of Daphne the first time I got the pleasure of grooming her. She was my cuddle bug. We would sit on the floor of the grooming room and snuggle for what seemed like forever. Such a kind-hearted soul with four legs.

It is with tremendous sadness I have to mention that on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 13, Daphne unexpectedly passed away. This was a very hard hit not only for the Georges but also for us here at Professional Pet Grooming as we considered her one of our own. She was groomed every six weeks rain or shine and adored every second.

Although we know she is in a better place, our hearts still ache as we never got the chance to say goodbye. Daphne was 10 years old when she passed. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the Georges for all they do for our furry friends. Not many people have the time, want or means to do what they do; and as Daphne is now, they are all angels in our eyes.

If there was one final thing I could say to my dear sweet Daphne, it would be, “Although our time here on earth is short, I promise I will see you again.” I will miss her cuddling and snorting, but most of all I will miss how much she made me love what I do.

So the next time you see your fuzzy companion; hug them, kiss them and tell them how much you love them; because time is short but the feeling of loss is forever.

From all of us here at Professional Pet Grooming, God bless.
