As you know, we’re working hard at the News to re-tool the business into a sustainable one — one that will do more than just survive, but will grow and thrive with our community.
On that front, we have some company news to share:
- More local content: When we bought the News, we made a commitment to invest in the production of more local content. We’ve been doing just that. But we know we can do more; we can do better. We need your help. What are we missing? What else do you want to see? There is no item too small. We want to run it all. Please send your news and ideas to us at assignments@mountvernonnews.com.
- MountVernonNews.com is FREE: If you haven't noticed, we took down the website paywall so all members of our community can now read the News online without a paid subscription. We did this because we hope it will encourage more community sharing of news with us so we can publish more news, drive more readership, and be of better value and service to our advertisers. So far, the plan is working. Web traffic is breaking records in December, and our email newsletters are going to more than 10,000 community members.
- New office: We will soon have positive news to share about better use of the historic Mount Vernon News building, which is no longer ideal for us in the Digital Age. We’ve moved to a new space in The Woodward Opera House building. Our address is 107 S. Main St., Suite 200. Please come see us.
- Print subscriptions: We want to keep our print edition thriving and add more daily editions. To do so, we need your support. We’re kicking off a print subscription drive; and if we reach our goal of 500 new annual subscribers, we’ll be able to add a third print day.
If your print subscription with the News has or will soon lapse, or if you’d like to become a new subscriber, there are now four ways to do so:
- For a big discount, go online to mountvernonnews.com/subscriptions and you can pay with a credit card.
- Call us at our Subscription & Renewal Line — (740) 263-3007 — and we can take your order by phone.
- If you would like to mail a check; please include your first name, last name, address for delivery, email and phone number. Send it to Mount Vernon News, P.O. Box 2006, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 (Note: this is different from our physical address).
- Or, you can visit us in person at our new office: 107 S. Main St., Suite 200 (2nd floor); 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
