GivingTuesday

If you’ve never participated in GivingTuesday, this is your year to support the Knox County Community with a donation to the United Way of Knox County Inc.

As part of the United Way Knox County 2020 campaign, we urge you to donate local this GivingTuesday. Donations made to United Way of Knox County Inc. on GivingTuesday will support the United Way Community Investment Agenda and United Way programs such as Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Free Tax Preparation Assistance, and Crunch Out Knox County. The United Way 2020 Community Investment Agenda also supports investments in 25 programs at 17 partner agencies in the community.

The best part about GivingTuesday? The impact of any amount you donate on Dec. 1 at uwayknox.org/tuesday will be doubled through the generosity of the Knox County Foundation (matching up to $5,000).

This GivingTuesday, mark your calendar to make a difference in your community and support the health, financial stability and education of all Knox County residents.

Main Street Mount Vernon receives letter from Santa Claus

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – A large green envelope with red writing was found in the Main Street Mount Vernon mailbox on the morning of Nov. 17. Addressed to the children of Knox County, the letter read as follows:

“HO! HO! HO! Hello children of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Santa and Mrs. Claus here, from all the way up in the North Pole. Christmas is right around the corner and we are going through and checking my “Naughty and Nice” list twice for the big day. We wanted to send a letter to you letting you know how sorry we are that we won’t be able to join you for the Downtown Rock Around on Saturday, Nov. 28. There will be no parade and, sadly, no Santa’s House. With the virus cases rising all across the state of Ohio, we didn’t want to take the chance of getting Rudolph or any of the other reindeer sick because they have such a long journey on Christmas Eve. We will miss seeing all of your lovely faces, but we will be back to deliver all of your presents on Christmas Eve.

"Mrs. Claus and I want you to drop off your letters to Santa at Almost Famous Sweets and Sodas at 46 Public Square; or at PakMail, located at 812 Coshocton Avenue. You can also send your letters to PakMail, but they have to be addressed to Santa Claus and have your name and address included.”

Main Street Mount Vernon is in close contact with Knox Public Health and is working on the best plan to keep our community safe for the Downtown Rock Around on Saturday, Nov. 28. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., participating downtown merchants will have child-friendly, holiday-themed ideas to complete in store or to take and complete at home. After completing your downtown holiday shopping, head to the square at 5:30 p.m. for a special lighting ceremony sponsored by Park National Bank, followed by a holiday set from a local musician.

We ask that all attendees practice social distancing while downtown and wear masks if you are inside or within six feet of others not from the same household. Masks will be available for the square lighting ceremony, and in an effort to limit excessive contact, customers are encouraged to minimize handling merchandise unless they plan to make a purchase.

Gambier Community Cookbook going digital

Think about a recipe that is special to you. You could select one that brings back memories of sharing a meal with friends and family. Maybe you have a special family recipe you've never shared before, or something you have always wanted to make but have never had the opportunity to try. Anything will do, but sharing a recipe you care about will make the biggest impact!

Submissions must be received by Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, to be included.

The online community cookbook will be compiled daily throughout the project, allowing it to grow and change with the level of community involvement. The cookbook will be made available as a PDF on our website, www.gundgallery.org.

Then join us for a Virtual Community Feast over the winter intersession when we cook our favorite dishes and share a meal together over Zoom. Details will be forthcoming; check www.gundgallery.org for more information.
