Food For The Hungry and Psi Iota Xi Elementary School Drive
MOUNT VERNON – Celebrating 39 years of giving in Knox County, Food For The Hungry is holding its school drive this week. Elementary and middle school students in Mount Vernon are working together to fight hunger and provide emergency client services through the Salvation Army and Interchurch Social Services. With the help of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, food is being collected throughout the week at Mount Vernon area classrooms, as well as at the Centerburg, Danville, East Knox and Fredericktown elementary schools. (Centerburg High School is also participating this week.)
The class in each school that contributes the highest average number of cash and food items per student will be treated to a pizza party. Cash donations are welcome. A $1 donation equals $9 of buying power at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
Make checks payable to Food For The Hungry. The deadline to bring donations to school is this Friday, Nov. 20. For information, visit FoodForTheHungryCares.org.
Food For The Hungry 2020 Battle of the Coffee Shops
Food For The Hungry is also holding the first-ever Battle of the Coffee Shops, happening this week and again from Dec. 1-9. During these dates, community members can visit local coffee shops and donate non-perishable food items or give a financial donation to Food For The Hungry.
Each person who donates $1 or more can put their name into a drawing for a gift card to that coffee shop. There will be a drawing at the end of each donation period. At the end of the second donation period, the coffee shop with the most collected donations will win the Food For The Hungry Coffee Shop of the Year trophy and bragging rights for the year.
