There is a temporary plan in place for athletes at Mount Vernon Nazarene University to play in front of spectators during the fall sports season.
The university has put guidelines in place to keep attendees safe, including student-athletes, staff members and officials.
This weekend’s volleyball game against the University of St. Francis on Saturday, Sept. 5 (scheduled for 3 p.m.) and the men’s soccer scrimmage against Ohio Christian University will not have spectators in attendance. For those who wish to watch the volleyball game, it will be available to watch via livestream at WNZR.TV.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity for athletic events to return to MVNU this fall,” Athletics Director Chip Wilson said. “Our students-athletes and coaches have prepared their teams well during these unusual circumstances, and to give them the chance to compete will bring much-needed energy back to campus. We want to provide the safest environment for all game participants and game management personnel, and unfortunately for our upcoming women's volleyball game and men's soccer game on Sept. 5, we will not be allowing any spectators. We know this is an unwelcomed announcement for family members especially, and we do hope we are able to welcome spectators very soon. We appreciate your understanding. Go Cougars!"
