Knox County Foundation distributes over $120,000 in grant funding

Nine community organizations received a total of over $120,000 in grant funding in August from the Knox County Foundation for everything from heating and air conditioning to internships.

The foundation’s board approved small grants of $5,000 or less and larger grants of more than $5,000, a release issued on the foundation's website said.

A $70,000 matching grant for the Bladensburg Community Center to purchase a new heating and air conditioning unit will enable its use year-round.

Ten college interns will be supporting nonprofit organizations in Knox County through a $10,000 grant to Kenyon College in Gambier. The students gain job experience while helping the nonprofits.

The Center of Hope Knox County food distribution hub in Bladensburg was awarded $12,500 to increase its food storage capacity and safely store more fresh and local foods.

The Science Play-Space Initiative (SPI) can offer low-income Knox County families scholarships through a $10,000 grant— $5,000 per year for two years. The scholarship winners get free annual family passes for unlimited visits to SPI.

Knox County Commissioners will receive $3,000 for the Kokosing State Scenic River and Mohican River cleanup in September, covering 33 miles of river.

The Crunch Out program at United Way of Knox County, in partnership with Get Healthy Knox County, will receive $5,000.

Volunteers at HopeNow Furniture Bank will be able to work safer with a safety saw being purchased with a $2,500 grant.

The Mount Vernon Pickleball Association can retrofit four Junior tennis courts at Memorial Park thanks to a $5,000 grant, making them suitable for both Junior tennis and pickleball.

KCF provided a $2,500 grant to the Prevent Blindness Vision Care Outreach Program, allowing them to help more low-income families.

The next small grant application deadline is Oct. 1. The next deadline for large grant applications is Jan. 1, 2021.
