Residents of Knox, Delaware, Madison and Morrow counties can get rid of their hazardous waste and paint at the Morrow County Fairgrounds on Aug. 15.

This hazardous waste and paint event was recently added to the Delaware, Knox, Marion, Morrow Joint Solid Waste District (DKMM) Special Collection Events 2020 calendar. It will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Morrow County Fairgrounds is located at 195 S. Main St., in Mount Gilead. 

An electronics disposal and paper shredding special collection originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22 has been canceled.

Hazardous waste may include adhesives, automotive fluids, batteries, fire extinguishers, fluorescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs, household chemicals, household cleaners, propane cylinders 20 pounds or smaller, and smoke alarms that include a radioactive symbol.

Getting rid of hazardous waste is free, but latex paint will cost $2 per paint can. A limit of 10 cans of paint in containers of 5 gallons or smaller has been set.

Staff at the special collection events can only accept cash or checks.

Only residents of Delaware, Knox, Marion and Morrow counties can participate in these special collections; and a photo ID to prove residency will be required. Items from businesses, schools, institutions or churches will not be allowed.
