His dream season was nearly derailed by a solid Danville team, and it took a solid run at the end of Saturday’s game to preserve the longest winning streak in the Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference.The Cardington-Lincoln Pirates girls basketball team outscored host Danville, 11-3, in the final minutes Saturday to escape with a 55-47 victory.

CENTERBURG – Centerburg boys basketball assistant coach Ed Lambert offered pizza for any player who collected eight rebounds on Wednesday.Party at Mick Mead’s house.Mead collected nine rebounds in the second half alone to go along with his game-high 14 points in the Trojans’ 63-53 season-opening win over Mount Vernon.Wednesday’s game was the first-ever regular season meeting between the two Knox County schools.

MOUNT VERNON – A halftime break was all the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets needed to earn their second win of the season.Evan Owens rushed for 92 yards in the third quarter, setting up a pair of touchdowns and carrying the Jackets to a 21-13 Homecoming victory over winless Mansfield Madison on Friday.“All week, the message has been that we have to finish the job,” Mount Vernon coach Mike Kerr said.
