Etna Township will kick off its America 250 celebration by honoring veterans and first responders during a full day of community events marking the reopening of High Point Park and the nation's 250th anniversary.
The event, Etna Celebrates America 250, will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, at High Point Park in Licking County. The day begins with a Veterans and First Responders Breakfast from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Etna High Point Church, recognizing those who have served the community and the nation before the park officially reopens at noon.
The celebration will also feature the creation and dedication of an official America 250 Time Capsule, one of the day's signature events. The capsule will be buried at Etna Township Hall beneath a boulder with a bronze marker plate and remain sealed until the nation's 300th anniversary in 2076, preserving memories and artifacts for future generations.
The township said the project is intended to leave a lasting legacy for residents.
"This is something that will be here long after all of us… a piece of history this community will talk about for generations," an event announcement shared by Trustee Rachel Zelazny stated.
Following the park's reopening, visitors can enjoy free face painting and live music near the gazebo. Cyndee's Studio of Dance will perform at 2 p.m., followed by a meet-and-greet with local author Ashley Stallings from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Rock painting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.
Evening festivities include live music by Kill the DJ from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by a family movie night featuring National Treasure from 9:30 to 11 p.m. Free hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. at Etna High Point Church.
High Point Park, located next to Etna Township Hall, has long been a gathering place for the community. Its reopening marks the completion of a major improvement project that included upgrades to walking paths, fencing, landscaping, and event infrastructure.
Etna Township's celebration is part of the nationwide America 250 initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. By opening the day with a tribute to veterans and first responders and closing it with activities focused on community and history, the event aims to recognize those who have served while creating a legacy that will be remembered for generations.
