This May, the Gallery on Gambier invites the community to celebrate creativity with two standout events—an opening reception featuring Shirley Kaye Perkins, Lisa Pomeroy, Greg Stadler, and Alexi Penko on May 2, followed by a hands‑on spring bird painting workshop with Vicki Moon Spiegel on May 6.
The featured exhibition, Serenity and Simple Imagination, opens Saturday, May 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gallery on Gambier. Showcasing recent works by Shirley Kaye Perkins and Lisa Pomeroy, the display offers visitors a chance to experience two distinct artistic styles side by side. Their pieces will remain on view through the end of June, inviting the community to return and explore the collection throughout the season.
The evening will also include interactive and musical elements. Sculptor Greg Stadler will demonstrate his process using a 3D pen, giving guests insight into how modern tools can shape creative expression. To complement the visual art, musician Alexi Penko of La Musique will perform on concert harp, piano, and violin. Food and refreshments will be catered, and beverages purchased from Happy Street Bru‑Werks down the hall may be brought into the gallery. Guests are encouraged to sign the registry for a chance to win a door prize. Parking is available in municipal lots after 5 p.m., with the gallery located at 14 E. Gambier Street.
The celebration continues midweek with a hands‑on workshop led by Gallery artist Vicki Moon Spiegel. On Wednesday, May 6, from 3 to 5 p.m., Spiegel will guide participants through two hours of colorful spring bird mixed‑media painting. The session encourages creativity without hesitation. As Spiegel explains, she wants attendees to “be brave and have fun, unleash your creativity, and leave your inhibitions at home.” Participants will create postcard‑sized paintings using a mix of watercolor, gouache, and casein paints.
Spiegel has been a professional artist for most of her life and is known for using “any and everything that comes along” to create art. She enjoys teaching classes and workshops to all ages, making this event accessible for beginners and experienced painters alike. All supplies will be provided, and the cost is $30 per participant. Registration is available at www.theGalleryOnGambier.com.
With exhibitions, demonstrations, live music, and interactive workshops, the Gallery on Gambier is offering Mount Vernon residents and visitors a chance to celebrate creativity in many forms this spring.
