Mount Vernon City Schools announced that online applications for new open enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year will be available beginning April 1 and must be submitted by May 15, 2026.

The announcement is relevant to families considering a change in their child's school placement within the district or those living outside the district who wish to enroll in Mount Vernon City Schools. The process aims to provide flexibility and access to educational opportunities across the district's schools.

The open enrollment application process is open to elementary students within the Mount Vernon City School District who wish to attend a different elementary building, as well as students living outside the district who wish to enroll in an MVCSD school. Parents must create a PowerSchool Parent Portal account by selecting the Enrollment dropdown menu, then New Open Enrollment, and then the PowerSchool Parent Portal option to set up an account. Instructions for creating a parent account and the application itself are available through that portal, according to a news release by Mount Vernon City Schools.

Applications will not be accepted before April 1, 2026, and any submissions prior to that date will automatically be denied. Applicants will receive a time-stamped confirmation email once their application has been submitted. All applications will be reviewed in accordance with board policy and administrative guidelines, and additional information is available by visiting the New Open Enrollment section under the Enrollment dropdown menu on the district website, according to a news release by Mount Vernon City Schools.

One PowerSchool account covers all students in the household and remains active throughout their enrollment in the district. To register, parents provide their name, phone number, email address, a password, and two security questions. Once the account is created, students are added by selecting Add Student and entering each child's name and date of birth, according to Mount Vernon City Schools.
