Audrey Spearman was honored with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Community Service Award, presented by the Lucy Knox Chapter at their meeting on March 14. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate an above-average level of service to others.
The recognition highlights Spearman's ongoing contributions to Knox County, Ohio, and beyond. She was nominated by Jana Stewart, a member of the Lucy Knox Chapter. According to Stewart's nomination, Spearman and her late husband Dean established the Rollin’ Buckeyes fund within the Knox County Foundation in 2001 to provide scholarships for county residents attending The Ohio State University. The fund continues to give multiple awards each year.
Spearman is also active in events for the alumni club, including organizing the Buckeye Spirit Event each October. She serves on the Board of Food for the Hungry and provides lunch for all volunteers during the community-wide donation day in December. Additionally, she is involved with the Community Concert Association.
Her community engagement extends to holding several offices in the local Apple Valley Garden Club and serving as a regional director of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. For over 15 years, she has co-chaired the flower show at the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival, a three-day event that brings together arrangers and gardeners from central Ohio. Each month, Spearman visits the Living Center to lead craft activities—often with a flower theme—for interested residents.
