On Feb. 21, 2025, the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball team defeated Taylor University 72-59 during its senior day game at Ariel Arena.

The game marked a significant moment for redshirt senior Trent Koning, who was honored for his five years with the Cougars. The win brings Mount Vernon Nazarene's record to 17-11 overall and 9-9 in the Crossroads League, while Taylor University falls to 19-9 overall and 11-7 in league play.

Peyton Heiss led the Cougars’ offense with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Isaiah Brown contributed 13 points along with two assists, one rebound, one steal, and one block. Abib Abib added 12 points and seven rebounds. Koning finished with 11 points, four assists, two rebounds, and two steals. The Cougars shot 43.4% from the field and made nearly half of their three-point attempts at 43.8%. They also converted on over eighty percent of their free throws.

Coach Ronai said: "Incredibly proud of our group and their intentionality on the defensive end of the floor today. Really proud of Trent Koning, our lone senior. He has led this young group well all year long through the ups and downs of a college basketball season. We’re grateful for a great environment as always inside Ariel Arena. We’re excited to get better on Monday."

Mount Vernon Nazarene will enter the Crossroads League Tournament as the No. 6 seed and is scheduled to face No. 3 seed Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m.
