On February 14, the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball team secured a 91-83 victory over No. 11 Bethel University at Ariel Arena.
The game was part of Jesus Won Day, an event observed by all Crossroads League schools to highlight the impact of Christ on student-athletes in the faith-based conference. The Cougars overcame an early deficit and maintained their lead through the second half, with several players making significant contributions.
Trent Koning led Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) with 21 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Isaiah Brown added 17 points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Reed Platfoot scored 16 points while grabbing three rebounds and blocking two shots. Peyton Heiss recorded a triple double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Abib Abib contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Kieran Granville provided 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. MVNU shot 54.8% from the field and made six out of fourteen three-point attempts.
Coach Jared Ronai said, "Really proud of our group. We faced many moments of adversity together out there today and kept on responding. We’re young, but that is a sign of a group that is maturing. We have more growth to get to, and we’re excited to get better on Monday."
