Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Thorne Library has received a $1,031 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, awarded by the State Library of Ohio. The funding, part of the Celebrating Ohio Book Awards & Authors (COBAA) LSTA Grant, allowed the library to enhance its Educational Resource Center (ERC) with over 60 Buckeye Children’s and Teen Book award-winning titles. This expansion aims to support literacy education for pre-service teachers and provide updated resources for Knox County families.
The ERC's enriched collection will benefit both undergraduate and graduate students in MVNU’s teacher education program by exposing them to contemporary trends in juvenile literature and showcasing works by Ohio authors. Christy Taylor, Thorne Library Director and COBAA Grant Project Lead, expressed gratitude for the grant: "We are very grateful to the LSTA for choosing MVNU’s Thorne Library as a COBAA grant recipient this year."
In collaboration with Paragraph’s Bookstore in Mount Vernon, the library acquired these new titles while supporting local business. Ellie Wolfe, a junior elementary education major at MVNU, shared her excitement about the new additions: "I am so excited about the new books that we have received through this grant. These books will help education majors expand our knowledge base of current literature for students of all ages."
