The Salvation Army Mount Vernon Corps recently hosted open houses for its new Learning Lighthouse childcare center. Despite challenging weather conditions, the events saw a significant turnout of prospective parents, donors, and community members.

Austin Swallow, the campaign chair, expressed appreciation for the community's support. "A common comment described the Learning Lighthouse as the right project at the right time," Swallow said. He emphasized that the initiative is an investment in both the future and current workforce, aiming to advance the city now and in years to come.

Swallow extended an invitation to those who could not attend the open house to reconnect and discuss any questions or concerns. He noted that while the official fundraising campaign will conclude this month, efforts are ongoing to reach a $6.25 million goal. Matching funds are still available for contributions.

Swallow encouraged continued collaboration within the community: "We hear talk all the time about change. In this endeavor, let's not just talk about what we want for our kids and grandkids; let's continue to work together to BE that change."
