Mount Vernon City schools will hold its Veterans Day Breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 12, and Senior Citizens Fall Luncheon the following day.
To honor veterans, Mount Vernon Middle School (MVMS) is inviting them and their families to the Mount Vernon Middle School Commons at 302 Yellow Jacket Drive, Mount Vernon, for a Veterans Day Breakfast. The celebration will start at 8:30.
"We are hosting the 5th annual MVMS Veterans Day Breakfast on November, 12th beginning at 8:30 am. The breakfast is open to all veterans and their families in our community," MVMS stated.
With participation from 8th-grade social studies students and other school groups, this student-led event is a tribute to veterans, affirming their honor and the gratitude they deserve. As part of this appreciation, students and staff members who will be bringing along veterans with them are warmly welcome to eat with their guests.
Veterans and their families are requested to RSVP no later than Sunday, Nov. 9, through the link provided in their Facebook account or by calling 740-392-6867. The registration form will only ask for a few details, such as the name of the veteran, the name of the student the veteran is connected to (if applicable), and the veteran's service component (air force, navy, army, etc.).
MVMS is anticipating a school-wide participation to make the gathering successful and impactful.
"We will get the whole school involved by having them participate in generating awareness of the event, fundraising, and decorations, as well as participating in learning opportunities during Social Studies classes," MVMS added.
Following the Veterans Day Breakfast, Mount Vernon High School will host the Senior Citizens Fall Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 13. It will be held at the Mount Vernon High School Gymnasium from 12 - 2 p.m. To reserve a seat and attend this exciting afternoon of fun and surprises, guests are kindly requested to RSVP by Friday, Nov. 7. Inquiries and RSVPs can be sent via jshelton@mvcsd.us or call Jessica Shelton at 740-397-74-22 ext. 6025.
"Please join Mount Vernon City Schools for our annual Senior Citizens Fall Luncheon, a cherished community tradition," an announcement in the recent school district newsletter reads. "Enjoy a warm afternoon of fellowship, great food, and student entertainment, hosted by Superintendent Bill Seder."
