East Elementary announces the return of "Donut with a Grown Up". The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, Oct. 3, from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. at the East School cafeteria.
Sponsored by the ESPTO, the event aims to foster a love of literacy while strengthening the bond between students and their families. Parents, guardians, and other adult family members are invited to join their children for a morning of reading and light refreshments. Families are encouraged to bring a book and spend the morning reading together. Donuts will be provided, offering a sweet complement to the shared experience of storytelling and learning. The event serves as a gentle reminder of the importance of reading aloud and engaging with children in meaningful ways.
"Join Us Friday, October 3rd, from 8:00-8:45 A.M," a Facebook post reads. "Grab a book, donuts are provided and spend the morning reading together! Sponsored by the ESPTO!
Volunteers are invited to contribute their time and energy to ensure the event’s success. Opportunities to assist include setting up the reading space, distributing refreshments, and helping to create a warm and organized atmosphere.
“Donuts with a Grown Up” continues a legacy of similar gatherings held over the years. Previous events include “Donuts with Dad,” hosted in various years from 2012 to 2019, and “Morning with Mom,” held in March of 2018, 2019, and 2020. Most recently, the school welcomed families on March 3, 2023, and November 11, 2022, for the same occasion.
In May this year, Columbia Elementary PTO also invited families to their sponsored event, "Donuts, Books & Smiles."
East Elementary and Columbia Elementary are part of the Mount Vernon City School District.
