The Ohio Department of Development and the Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission have announced the continuation of their support through the Summer Crisis Program, aimed at assisting Ohio families in managing extreme heat conditions.
Ohio's Summer Crisis Program, operational from July 1 to September 30, provides aid to eligible households struggling with summer cooling needs. According to the Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission, the program assists with electric bill payments, purchasing fans or air conditioners, and repairing central air units for qualifying households. This includes those facing shutoff, needing service reconnection, or having members over 60 or with health conditions that require air conditioning, such as asthma or lung disease.
To qualify for assistance, households must meet specific income guidelines. For example, a family of four must earn no more than $56,262.50 annually. Last year, more than 44,000 Ohio households benefited from this program. Interested individuals are required to schedule an appointment with the Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission and provide necessary documents like proof of income, utility bills, and medical documentation if applicable.
"We’re proud to partner with community action agencies across the state to deliver this critical support during the hottest months of the year," said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. "Time after time, this program has proven to be a vital lifeline for countless Ohioans when temperatures start to rise."
