Downtown Mount Vernon is set to undergo an artistic transformation as the Knox County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), in collaboration with Experience Mount Vernon, initiates a utility box art project. This initiative aims to integrate public art into the city while celebrating Mount Vernon's historical narratives.

The first utility box, located at North Main and Chestnut Street, will be wrapped on July 2nd. This marks the start of a year-long project that will see over ten utility boxes turned into artworks depicting significant aspects of Mount Vernon's history. "We are incredibly excited to bring this vision to life in downtown Mount Vernon," said Olivia Toth, Marketing Manager of the Knox County CVB. The project aligns with the America 250-Ohio celebrations planned for 2026.

Local artist Emily Morrison has been selected for this creative endeavor. "We’re excited to have Emily on this project because she has volunteered her artistic talents and photography for many events and organizations throughout our community," Toth added.

The initiative reflects strong community collaboration. "Experience Mount Vernon is thrilled to partner with the CVB on a project that beautifies our downtown in such a creative way," said Lacey Filkins, Director of Experience Mount Vernon.

Funding comes from the Knox County CVB, Experience Mount Vernon, and a grant from the Ariel Foundation. Upon completion, these art installations will be part of the Knox County CVB’s interactive Mount Vernon Art & History Trail. Toth mentioned plans for a new way to experience local stories and art by 2026.
