The Homer Public Library has announced its schedule of programs and events for July, offering a range of activities for all age groups.

According to the Homer Public Library, children's summer reading events will include a tie-dye party on July 2 and 11, a visit from the Columbus Symphony Orchestra featuring an instrument petting zoo on July 9, and a summer finale with messy activities and a picnic on July 16. Teen-focused events will feature craft sessions such as bouquet shadow drawings on July 8 and Shrinky Dinks with Licking County Recycling on July 15. A movie and pizza night showing "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is scheduled for July 17. Registration is required for all teen programs.

Adults can participate in crafting with Ann on July 8, which will offer various creative projects. A recipe exchange focused on picnic foods is set for July 11, where participants can bring a dish or simply taste others' offerings. The Community of Women gathering on July 15 provides an opportunity for support and connection. The Ukulele Association of Homer will meet on July 10 and 24 to share music and offer free lessons, with instruments available for lending.

On July 25, the library will host a full day of community programs starting with a book club meeting to discuss "The Women All Spies Feared" by Amy Butler Greenfield. This will be followed by a meal provided by Licking County Aging at noon, which requires reservations. The day will conclude with a discussion hosted by the Homer Historical Society where attendees can bring historical items to share informally.

The Homer Public Library's history dates back to its founding in 1895 when community members formed the Homer Library Association and established a reading space in the town hall. Over the years, it has expanded significantly from its original setup, moving into a newly built facility in 1970 and undergoing several expansions thereafter. In 2006, it acquired additional property from the Homer Volunteer Fire Department, further enhancing its capacity. Today, the library spans over 10,000 square feet, houses more than 35,000 items, and offers public internet access through seven computers.
