Mary Cate Spang drove in six runs on two hits to lead the Northridge Varsity Vikings past the Grandview Heights Varsity Bobcats 14-4 on Tuesday. Spang singled in the fourth inning, scoring three runs, and singled again in the sixth inning, scoring two more.
According to game reports, the Grandview Heights Varsity Bobcats initially took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Tatum Lusher doubled, scoring two runs, and Chloe Castle singled, adding another run. However, Northridge Varsity Vikings turned the game around in the top of the fourth by scoring seven runs on four hits to take a 7-3 lead. The most significant hit came from Spang's single that drove in three runs.
The Northridge Varsity Vikings continued their offensive momentum by scoring five more runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Camryn Moore contributed with a single that scored one run, Cheyann Severance drew a walk that scored another run, Elizabeth Behn scored after tagging up, and Kaylee Goodwin singled to bring in two additional runs.
Ellie Reese earned the win for Northridge Varsity Vikings. The starter allowed 11 hits and four runs over six innings while striking out two batters and walking none. Madelyn Smith took the loss for Grandview Heights Varsity Bobcats. The right-handed pitcher went two and one-third innings, giving up seven runs on five hits while striking out one batter and walking five. Ejheni Mdivanian started for Grandview Heights Varsity Bobcats, allowing four hits and seven runs (four earned) over three and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and seven walks.
Spang and Moore each collected two hits for Northridge Varsity Vikings. Goodwin led her team with three walks as part of an overall strong performance at the plate that included 12 walks for the game. The team also turned one double play without committing any errors during the match. Kaitlyn Angus made nine plays to lead defensively.
