Mount Vernon, OH – National Donate Life Month in April focuses on educating the public about organ, eye, and tissue donation. It also serves to honor donors and recognize the lives they have saved and healed. The decision to become a donor provides hope to approximately 100,000 individuals on the national organ transplant waiting list who are seeking a second chance at life.

In Mount Vernon, Knox Community Hospital (KCH) is promoting awareness by encouraging staff to wear blue and green on Friday, April 11, as part of Donate Life Month observance. A donor registration table will be available in the main hospital cafeteria from 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday, April 10. Additionally, a flag-raising ceremony will take place in front of the main hospital at 11:30 AM that day with representatives from both KCH and Lifeline of Ohio present.

"Organ donation is a powerful act of compassion that is the ultimate act of generosity, bringing people and communities together in support of one another in times of great need," said Erika Bjork, Director of Case Management at KCH. "The choice to become an organ donor offers not only a life-saving opportunity to someone with critical medical need but gives them the priceless gift of hope."

Anyone can register as a donor regardless of age, race, or medical history. A medical evaluation will occur at the time of death to determine eligibility for donation. Those interested in registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor can visit https://lifelineofohio.org/.
