The East Knox Varsity Bulldogs baseball team claimed a 3-2 victory over Utica on Tuesday, scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning. The game was tied at two when Dakota Cooper walked and crossed the plate.
Both teams were strong on the mound, with East Knox pitchers recording six strikeouts and Utica's staff fanning eight.
Utica struck first in the fourth inning when a wild pitch allowed a run to score.
East Knox took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on an error by Utica.
Utica tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Gavin Tussey singled to right field.
Caden Ridenour started for East Knox, allowing four hits and two runs over five innings. He struck out four and walked one. Braxton Fisher started for Utica, giving up three hits and three runs (none earned) over five and two-thirds innings. Fisher struck out eight and walked four. Caleb Armstrong pitched two scoreless innings in relief for East Knox, allowing one hit, striking out two, and walking one.
Cooper led East Knox with one RBI. Colton Armstrong went 2-for-3 to lead the team in hits. East Knox did not commit any errors, with Gavin Kidwell registering six fielding chances.
Tussey had the lone RBI for Utica and went 1-for-4 at the plate. Connor Garee had two hits in three at-bats. Utica turned one double play.
East Knox will host Loudonville on Wednesday in their next game.
