The East Knox FFA of East Knox Local Schools announced that its members competed in the state poultry management career development event on March 22 at the Ohio Exposition Center, finishing 16th out of 77 teams. The announcement was made in a press release on April 1, 2025.
According to the East Knox FFA, the team comprised Aiden Kapper, Isabelle Bostic, Hayden Baker, Dylan Springer, Jasmine Smith, and Mackenzie Wilson. Their overall performance was based on the top four individual scores. Kapper finished 16th, Bostic placed 82nd, Baker came in 143rd, and Springer ranked 164th out of 311 competitors. The event challenged participants with various poultry evaluation tasks, including placing broilers, past production hens, and ready-to-cook broiler carcasses. Participants also candled eggs to determine quality grades and graded exterior shell qualities.
Additionally, competitors identified broiler carcass parts and assessed defects in poultry products such as chicken patties and nuggets. They completed a written test covering poultry management topics like industry-related calculations. The event aimed to enhance students' skills in poultry production, processing, marketing, and food safety. It recognized the top ten teams and individuals with awards.
