Knox County Career Center (KCCC) announced that its Landscape Design & Management students participated in the National Collegiate Landscape Competition at Colorado State University from March 17-22. The announcement was made via a press release on April 1, 2025.

According to KCCC, it was one of two high schools to compete in an event featuring over 50 schools and 700 competitors. Several students achieved notable placements, including Charley Beheler, who placed 21st in Compact Excavator; Hudson Henry, who secured 25th in Compact Track Skid Steer and 19th in Mini Track Loader; and Ava Pullins, who finished 13th in Construction Cost. Team efforts included Layla Crase and Mason Vallance achieving 21st place in Hardscape, while Beheler and Henry ranked 37th in Truck & Trailer. Other students such as Kennedy Auker and Grady Row also participated across various categories with commendable results.

"We had a great time at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition in Colorado. Our students represented us well and did a fantastic job. We were 1 of 2 high school programs at the event and competed at a high level," said John Campbell, KCCC’s Landscape Design & Management instructor.

The Knox County Career Center's Landscape Design & Management program provides students with practical experience in areas like greenhouse management, turf management, nursery management, landscape design, and construction. Students can earn industry credentials such as certifications in pesticide application, first aid, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards. The curriculum includes training on landscaping equipment operation and design software usage. Career paths for graduates include grounds maintenance, sports field management, landscape design, and pest management. Additional training at technical colleges or universities can further specialize their skills within the horticulture industry. The program has an articulated agreement with Clark State Community College.

Knox County Career Center offers various career-focused programs at both the high school level and through the Knox Technical Center. Located at 306 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, the center provides career services, financial aid options, and a range of programs aimed at preparing students for successful careers.
