The Johnstown Johnnies varsity softball team is preparing for an engaging 2025 season, with a competitive schedule and a talented roster poised to make an impact.
The season will officially commence on March 28, when the Johnnies host Philo at 5:30 p.m. at Johnstown High School. According to the team's schedule, prior to the regular season, they will engage in four scrimmages against Reynoldsburg, Dublin Jerome, Thomas Worthington, and Bloom Carroll. This year's schedule includes a mix of home and away contests, featuring key divisional matchups. The Johnnies are set to face familiar league opponents such as Heath, Licking Valley, Utica, and Newark Catholic. Home games against Bishop Hartley, Granville, and Lakewood are also planned.
One of the season's notable events will be Youth Night on April 23 when Johnstown hosts Granville in what is expected to be a pivotal conference showdown. The team will also participate in the Mid-Ohio Classic from April 18-19 at Ontario High School. The regular season will conclude with a doubleheader against Big Walnut on May 10, leading into the state tournament beginning on May 30.
Headlining the 2025 roster are standout juniors Addy Zak (Catcher, Third Base, Second Base), Cameron Bollinger (Outfield, Middle Infield), and Jenna Hochanadel (Outfield). They are joined by key sophomores such as Reese Lyons (utility), Ella Peterman (Pitcher, Infield), and Lucia Kuhn (Pitcher, First Base, Third Base). Freshmen newcomers Abigail Wood (Pitcher, Infield), Lucy Edwards (utility), and Brooklyn Wood (Catcher, Infield) are expected to contribute early in their high school careers.
Despite an injury sidelining sophomore Sydney Gernert, the team will rely on their depth and versatility throughout the season. Team managers Nadia Wentzel and Sophia Poling will play vital roles in supporting the Johnnies throughout the season by assisting with team operations and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
