Opportunity Knox Employment Center/OhioMeansJobs has announced the discontinuation of the paper shredding service at the Opportunity Knox Recycling Center. The decision follows the permanent failure of the center's industrial shredder, as detailed in a press release.
According to an announcement, repair costs for the shredder were estimated to exceed $9,000, rendering it financially unfeasible to continue offering the service. Despite this change, residents can still recycle paper by placing it in paper bags and depositing it in local Rumpke community recycling bins. However, this method is not recommended for documents containing personal or sensitive information.
Knox County Recycling & Litter Prevention will host two shredding events later this year to provide a secure option for disposing of confidential documents. One such event, CES Credit Union Shred Day, is tentatively scheduled for May 10, 2025.
Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention is part of the Delaware, Knox, Marion, Morrow (DKMM) Solid Waste District. Formed in 1989 and serving a population of 336,463, DKMM is funded by a $6.00 per ton fee on municipal solid waste. The district supports various initiatives including recycling, composting, education, and waste management through grants and private service contracts.
Opportunity Knox Employment Center/OhioMeansJobs Knox County operates under the Greater Ohio Workforce Board, Inc. (GOWBI) and connects workers with local employers through its One-Stop job center.
