The East Knox FFA of East Knox Local Schools announced that four members competed in the state FFA Agricultural Communications Career Development Event at The Ohio State University on February 8, 2025. The announcement was made in a press release.
According to the release, four East Knox FFA members participated in the state Agricultural Communications Career Development Event (CDE) at The Ohio State University, where they placed seventeenth out of teams from Ohio’s ten FFA districts. The competition was held at the Agricultural Administration Building. The team, consisting of Ariana Talbott, Ariel Atkinson, Alexia Wine, and Rhyan Williams, had qualified for the state event by performing well in a series of qualifying events.
To earn their spot, East Knox FFA placed seventh in the online state test, which covered agricultural communications and included an editing exercise based on the Associated Press Stylebook. The team had also competed in the District 7 contest, which involved 31 schools from six counties: Knox, Licking, Fairfield, Franklin, Pickaway, and Ross. This test of knowledge and skills in communication was a key step in qualifying for the state competition.
In the state competition, according to the release, the East Knox team participated in several activities designed to test their communication skills. These included creating a communications plan based on a press conference and four practical exercises: writing a feature story, completing a broadcast video exercise, developing a social media plan, and designing a magazine layout. These hands-on tasks were part of the educational event meant to enhance members' competency in agricultural communications.
