In recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Knox Community Hospital (KCH) is offering free colorectal cancer screening kits from March 3 to March 31. These take-home stool-based kits will be available at the main hospital's front entrance, the ground floor entrance to the Center for Cancer Care, and the Wright Family Medical Pavilion on the second floor. Kits can be picked up between 8 AM and 4:30 PM and must be returned by April 11 for testing.
Bobbi Mickley, Patient Navigator with the KCH Center for Cancer Care, said, "Colorectal Cancer is now the 3rd most common cancer diagnosis in the United States and one of the most preventable. The incidence of Colorectal Cancer is increasing in younger adults. The American Cancer Society recommends screening for age 45-74 and before age 45 if symptoms are present. Colorectal Cancer is a preventable disease with proper screening and lifestyle modifications. Please consider taking advantage of Knox Community Hospital's screening program that begins on March 3. Regular screening is the best form of prevention."
The hospital emphasizes that colon cancer is 90% preventable and encourages preventive screenings to detect risk factors early. Individuals with abnormal results or a family history of colorectal cancer are advised to undergo a colonoscopy.
