The Mount Vernon Police Department recently held its second annual Awards Banquet at the Woodward Opera House. The event recognized the dedication and achievements of officers over the past year.
Patrolman Jason Payne received the Officer of the Year award, chosen by his peers for his professionalism and dedication. Patrolman James Coffey described him as "someone who shows up to work, does his job, doesn’t get wrapped up in the drama, and is just good to work with."
Chief Robert K. Morgan presented the Bartlett Award to several officers for their outstanding instincts and investigative skills. The MVPD Detective Division was honored for solving a double homicide case within 24 hours, leading to a guilty plea and life sentences for the suspect. Recipients included Lieutenant Detective Beth Marti, Sergeant Detective Justin Willis, Patrolman Detective Matthew Haver, and Patrolman Detective Timothy Arnold.
Patrolmen Andreas Cotter and John Cox were recognized for making 64 OVI arrests in 2024 and significant drug seizures. Their efforts resulted in numerous arrests and felony indictments.
Patrolman Josh Perry was acknowledged for his swift response in apprehending a dangerous rape suspect linked to unsolved cases across multiple states.
The evening concluded with Chief Morgan receiving an award from the Mount Vernon Association of Police Chaplains for his support of their program.
The City of Mount Vernon commends all recipients for their dedication and professionalism in law enforcement.
