The Fredericktown Freddies powered past the Loudonville Redbirds with a dominant 88-66 victory on January 21, showcasing a well-rounded performance on both ends of the floor.
The Freddies shot 47.3 percent from the field, converting 27 of 44 attempts from inside the arc, while struggling slightly from behind the three-point line, making only 8 of 30 attempts. However, their ability to attack the paint and capitalize on turnovers proved to be the difference in the game. Fredericktown scored 50 points in the paint and took advantage of 25 points off Loudonville turnovers.
Blake Sipes led the Freddies with an outstanding 32 points, also adding 11 rebounds and 3 steals. His scoring burst came through a mix of inside finishes and mid-range jumpers, helping Fredericktown control the game from start to finish. Gavin Toombs contributed 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, continuing his solid play as one of the team’s primary facilitators. Carson Rinehart also chipped in with 14 points and 4 assists, providing valuable scoring in key stretches. Tanner Estep added 12 points, further deepening the Freddies’ offensive attack.
Fredericktown’s offensive efficiency was complemented by their strong rebounding performance. The Freddies grabbed 47 total rebounds, including 18 second-chance points, giving them multiple opportunities to extend possessions. The team’s ability to secure the ball on missed shots and turn those rebounds into easy baskets helped maintain their large lead throughout the game.
The Freddies also excelled in transition, scoring 21 points off fast breaks as they pushed the tempo and took advantage of Loudonville’s miscues. Their transition game, combined with an 8-of-30 performance from three-point range, kept the Redbirds on their heels throughout the contest.
On the defensive end, Fredericktown stifled Loudonville’s offensive flow. The Redbirds struggled to generate consistent offense, shooting just 40.6 percent from the field. Loudonville’s leading scorer, Judah Layton, finished with 20 points and 6 rebounds, while Dilan Wade contributed 15 points and 5 rebounds. Despite their efforts, Loudonville could not find a rhythm against Fredericktown’s defense, which was aggressive and quick to close out on shooters.
Fredericktown’s bench also contributed, providing valuable minutes and maintaining the intensity that the starters set. The Freddies’ defense forced several key turnovers, and their ability to capitalize on those opportunities allowed them to build a comfortable lead. By the time the second half rolled around, Fredericktown’s advantage was insurmountable as they continued to execute their game plan effectively.
The Redbirds, despite their best efforts, struggled to contain Fredericktown’s offensive weapons and could not recover after the Freddies’ early surge. Loudonville’s inability to stop Fredericktown’s inside scoring, combined with the Freddies’ dominance on the boards, led to a frustrating night for the Redbirds.
With the win, Fredericktown improved to 11-2 on the season, continuing their strong play heading into the later part of their schedule. Loudonville will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for upcoming games.
