Knox County hunters have harvested over 5,300 deer so far in 2024 season

As of Dec. 17, hunters in Knox County successfully harvested 5,359 deer during the 2024 Ohio deer hunting season. 

This total includes both archery and gun harvests, with the early gun season alone contributing 2,842 deer. 

The gun harvest consisted of 881 antlered deer and 1,961 antlerless deer, while the archery season saw 1,196 antlered and 1,321 antlerless deer, bringing the archery total to 2,517.

Knox County remains a key area for deer hunting success, with a combined total of 2,077 antlered and 3,282 antlerless deer harvested. 

Knox County hunters shot 881 deer on opening day alone.

Ohio’s overall deer harvest for the 2024 season has been strong, with 87,192 deer reported during the early week long gun season alone, marking the highest total in more than a decade. 

This marked an increase from 70,103 deer checked in 2023, with hunters taking 28,606 antlered deer and 58,586 antlerless deer. 

Coshocton County led the state with 2,954 deer harvested, followed by Tuscarawas which reported 2,673 and Knox County. 

Overall, across all hunting seasons, Ohio hunters reported 188,931 deer from Sept. 28 to Dec. 8. 

The 2024-25 Ohio deer hunting season has followed similar guidelines to 2023, with hunters allowed to harvest only one antlered deer, regardless of method or location. 

Archery season runs from Sept. 28, 2024, to Feb. 2, 2025. 

The general deer gun season took place from Dec. 2-8 and Dec. 21-22 with the muzzleloader season set for January 4-7, 2025. The youth deer gunseaon was held Nov. 16-17.
