Mount Vernon Nazarene University senior art students will have their artwork featured in "Encounter," an exhibition at MVNU's Schnormeier Gallery. The exhibition is scheduled to run from December 2 to December 11.
According to an MVNU news release, the artwork of Kristen Lewis and Brielle Owens will be presented in the exhibition. A Gallery Talk is planned for Thursday, December 5 at 5 p.m., followed by a reception from 6-8 p.m.
The release states that Lewis creates colorful bead mosaics that reveal the innocence and joy of children experienced in her life. An art education major, she grew up in a community that valued children's lives, influencing her decision to dedicate her life to them. She carefully places each colorful bead in her works to celebrate their importance in her life and in her audience's lives.
Owens, another art education major, has been heavily influenced by her time living in Eswatini, Africa. Her work centers on creating intricately detailed drawings of African animals to reveal their strength, grace, and natural beauty. She captures their awe and majesty through her art. Owens highlights a deep respect for nature and reflects on the vitality she encountered during her time in Eswatini in her work. Together, the two artists create moments to pause and experience the quiet wonder that comes from witnessing life's intricate details.
The release also notes that Schnormeier Gallery is located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU's Buchwald Center. The gallery is open from 1-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Admission is free. For more information, contact the gallery at artgallery@mvnu.edu.
