Bernie Moreno (R) said he promises to work for U.S. citizens after the election during a campaign stop in Mount Vernon on October 29 in the last days of his campaign for a seat in the U.S. Senate.
"If you work hard for me just know that I will work hard for the next 6 years to always be your voice in the United States Senate," Moreno said while encouraging Mount Vernon resident to vote in the General Election. "And I'll never forget I work for you, never the other way around."
Moreno faced incumbent Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown (D) in the election and won the election, flipping the seat with roughly a four point lead over Brown.
The event was a Bus Stop Tour at the Knox County Republican Headquarters located at 136 S. Main St. in Mount Vernon. Attendance at the event, which was held on the building steps outside on Main St., was roughly 700 people.
"Right here at Mount Vernon we have a great company Ariel," Moreno said in his address. "We're going to make America an energy superpower we're going to have so much energy production that Mount Vernon won't know what to put the rest of the Ariel facilities because we're going to unleash our energy resources."
Donald Trump Jr., son of former U.S. President and Republican nominee Donald Trump (R), joined Moreno during the event in Mount Vernon. U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville) attended the event in support of Moreno's campaign, as did South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who spoke at the event.
"Thank you so much Knox County, thank you so much for coming out," Moreno said.
Initial election results from the Knox County board of elections show Moreno receiving over 66% of the vote in the county, and incumbent Brown receiving less than 30% of the county's votes in the U.S. Senate race.
Moreno was endorsed by President Donald Trump.
