The Knox County Pomona Grange met on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Monroe-Dan Emmett Grange.
Pryor to the meeting, Community Service Chairperson, Sue Roy introduce Jo Welch from Bottoms-up. This a program that collects diapers for babies and distributes them to needed agencies. In Knox County, all diapers collected will stay in Knox County. The collection dates will be November 7 through November 21. You can drop off new diapers to the CES Credit Union at their two locations in Mount Vernon. Suggestion to take the diapers to Early Head Start or Starting Point. Sizes needed are 4, 5 & 6, but will collect all sizes. Pomona Grange is doing this as a Community Service for Knox County.
Master Lonnie Totten called the meeting to order with 17 members present. Opening song was "By The Light of the Silvery Moon".
Legislative Chairperson, Sue Roy talked about the hurricane in North Carolina. We voted to donate to the granges there to help with what they need. Remember early voting is started and election is November 5. The farmers in Florida are suing the EPA on regulations. Representative Bob Latta has legislation to stop mailing Fentanyl through the U. S. Mail. November is the month for Knitting for the Cure. They are caps made for cancer patients and we could make it a fund raiser.
Family Activities Chairperson, Mary Jewell said that she was ready for the Ohio State Grange Convention later this week.
County Deputy, Cindy Campbell was not present, but JoAnn Walton gave her report. Campbell has her car packed with all the craft and photo entries to take to the Ohio State Grange Convention. The Convention starts October 24 through October 27. Knox County is putting on the Rose Drill on Saturday Night. Campbell is also attending the National Grange Convention which is November 12 through November 16 in Iowa. Ohio is the host on Friday night, November 15 and she is asking all granges to get her snacks to take with her. November 10 will be the Master Association meeting at Morgan Grange at 2:00 p.m. All the Masters from Knox County are to attend to set the calendar for the 2025 year. Last reminder that if you want the receive the Ohio Grange Magazine, you need to take the last page and send $10.00 to the Ohio State Grange.
Communications read by Dee Smith was a request for Bonding due to the Ohio State Grange by December 1. Ohio State Grange is hosting a Bakeless Bake Sale at the Convention. All proceeds help to pay the cost to go to the National Convention.
Unfinished Business from Etta Arnholt on the Dictionary Project for Pleasant Street Elementary School. They have 60 students and she will see if we need to order more dictionaries as she has several left from last year.
Lecturer Deb Hamilton presented a program on dictionaries. October 16 is National Dictionary Day as that is Noah Webster's birthday. The dictionary is referred to as the Book of Words. All the granges in Knox County give the Dictionary Project to 3rd Graders in various schools in this area. The Dictionary Project was started in 1995. All received word searches.
JoAnn Walton announced that Morgan Grange is collecting pop tabs.

Next meeting is the Harvest Night Out on Monday, November 18 at Morgan Grange. It will be a potluck dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. Meat and drink will be provided.
