"Coloring My Resiliency" is the latest exhibit at Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Schnormeier Gallery, showcasing the artwork of MVNU alumnus Kimberly Rhyan and artist Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart.
According to an MVNU news release, the exhibition will be on display through November 21. A Gallery Talk is scheduled for 5 p.m. on November 8, followed by a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Additionally, a Homecoming Open House will take place on Saturday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The news release states that Rhyan, a member of the Class of 2000, passed away on September 26 after battling cancer for the third time. "Coloring My Resiliency" chronicles her journey from diagnosis to her final days. She conveyed a message of courage, hope, and peace while facing a terminal illness through a series of self-portraits.
Stewart presents her personal perspective on healing and intentional living through her art. She has been an artist for over 25 years and has exhibited her work in Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, France, Italy, England, Greece, and across the United States. The news release mentions that the two artists provide complementary perspectives.
The Schnormeier Gallery is located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU's Buchwald Center. The gallery is dedicated to exhibiting diverse artistic expressions and is open from 1-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
