Knox County Regional Airport will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Aviation Center project on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the airport’s main terminal, located at 6481 Kinney Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.
This expansion marks a pivotal moment in enhancing the airport’s infrastructure to better serve the growing economic and educational needs in the region. The planned expansion includes a new 100’x100’ heated hanger for increased aircraft storage, winter aircraft deicing and four classrooms that will be utilized by The Ohio State University Extension and other entities for instruction and gathering.
“This project represents a significant investment in our community’s future,” said Airport Board President Joe Ziegman. “We are excited to break ground on these enhancements, which will help us meet the increasing demand for transient hanger space and stimulate local economic growth.”
State and local officials, community leaders, and stakeholders have been invited to attend the ceremony, which will feature short comments from airport representatives, state, and local government officials, culminating in a ceremonial groundbreaking and light refreshments.
The Aviation Center is funded through a mix of state and local resources, (as well as continued private donations) reflecting a collaborative effort to enhance regional connectivity and support economic development.
