Three Knox County agencies have received grants totaling $8,500 from Mount Vernon Elks Lodge #140, according to Sandra Dick, Esteemed Leading Knight and grants coordinator.

A grant of $2,500 was awarded to PAK United (Police and Kids United) for their program to interact with children in the community. Activities covered by the grant include fishing, metal detecting, bike safety, attendance at college level athletic events, movies at Woodward Opera House and such things as community festivals.

A $3,000 grant was received by the Salvation Army to be used for children in their after-school program known as “Learning Zone.”

A grant of $3,000 was awarded to the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 147 for their “Shop With A Cop” program. A growing program, serving more children, will be used toward purchasing vital necessities and other items for children during the holiday season. Through programs such as “Shop with a Cop,” FOP is working to build a more positive relationship between law enforcement and the community.
