Cheryl Christine “Chris” Hatcher passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, in Newark, Ohio, after a long illness.

Born on May 26, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, Chris graduated from Franklin Heights High School. She married Gerald Eugene “Gary” Hatcher on June 19, 1967, and together they built a life filled with love and memories in both Mount Vernon, Ohio, and New Bern, North Carolina. Chris was the heart of family gatherings, making holidays and celebrations truly special for everyone who knew her.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise (Mager) and Charles William Pedigo, as well as her brother, Charles Lee Pedigo, and his wife Anna Pedigo.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 57 years, Gary; her three children: Kelly Strayer, Chuck (Angie) Hatcher, and Carissa Hatcher (Leigh Trzcinski); six grandchildren: Barry Strayer, Kayla (Geordan) Doup, Corey Strayer, Chase Hatcher, Hayden Hatcher and Alayna Hatcher; and one great-grandson, Caleb Doup.

A Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The American Legion Post 457, 230 Otis St., Sunbury, Ohio, 43074.
