A Shred Day on Sept. 19 will enable city residents, businesses, and organizations to safeguard personal information through the secure disposal of unwanted documents. The shredded paper will be recycled.

According to a Mount Vernon news release, the Shred Day will take place at the Station Break Senior Center at 160 Howard Street. Royal Document Destruction will handle the document disposal off-site. They will accept documents from 9 a.m. to noon, or until the truck reaches capacity.

Documents must be paper only without staples or other fasteners, according to the news release. Loads must be limited to no more than five boxes. Participants are not limited to a single load, but each load will be assessed a fee of $10.

The news release said that fees can be paid with cash, check, or credit card. Checks should be written to the City of Mount Vernon, noting "City Shred Day" in the memo line.
